I've been so busy with work over the last couple of months that I've barely had a chance to share a large backlog of photos I've taken! This is a quickie: two Polaroids I shot this past Friday while I was in Fort Worth.

Cleaning Supplies at the 99¢ only store
I've been in love with the displays at the 99¢ Only Stores since I visited my first one on Wilshire in LA. This one is in Fort Worth, Texas. Love those nearly-invisible Care Bear fabric softeners!
Both of these photos were taken using my Polaroid Sx-70 camera, expired 600 Polaroid film, and no ND filter. I hope to have more time to share more photos soon!

Anyone who has a casual acquaintance with my photography knows that I love to take pictures of signs, particularly of the retro neon variety. One of my favorite signs I've ever seen is the classic Circus Liquor Sign in North Hollywood. This was the sign under which Alicia Silverstone's "Cher" character was mugged in the film Clueless, and it's one of the best examples of mid-century neon I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to shoot some photos of it in August, and these two are my favorites.

This summer, I'm growing several vegetables in a little container garden I created! Along with chiles, herbs, and lettuce that I'm growing in aerogardens indoors, I'm growing three varieties of tomatoes (heirloom Beefsteak, Roma, and Heatwave), two varieties of bell peppers (sweet yellow and big boy green), and tomatillos outdoors. I'm also growing red hot cherry peppers and poblano chiles outside, as well as rosemary. It's so exciting to watch them all set fruit, and I can't wait to harvest what I hope will be a bounty!
While I wait, I've been inspired by heirloom produce from a local organic market. Recently, I got this beautiful heirloom tomato, and I just had to take a couple of photographs of it before enjoying its juicy sweetness! It was absolutely delicious with purple and green basil from my aerogarden and some ripe avocado! Simples pleasures, such as pure organic food, lend so much richness to our lives!

A Succulent in a Cup
I got this beautiful mug in Jerusalem from my favorite potters over ten years ago. Now it has a series of chips, so I repurposed it as a planter for this lovely lotus-esque succulent!

Today I'd like to share a handful of photos that I took last Saturday in San Francisco. I went to the City with some of my most precious possessions...my last pack of Type 85 Polaroid film and my last pack of Time-Zero Polaroid film. I wanted to shoot some photos in San Francisco before I ran out of either of these beautiful films. The first one I took was this one, looking at the Bay Bridge (my favorite bridge in the world!) from Treasure Island.

Imagine my surprise when, suddenly, an airship floated into view! With the mighty dirigible in sight, I took what may well be one of my very favorite Polaroids that I've ever taken:

Just when I thought the Zeppelin was gone, it returned, giving me the chance to take this photograph. It immediately reminded me of the horrible footage of Herbert Morrison's eyewitness account of the crash of the Hindenburg.

It was a truly magical day for Polaroid photography! I was thrilled to be so fortunate as to get these satisfying photos as I prepare to bid adieu to my favorite Polaroid films. It also reminded me that patience is, indeed, a virtue...and that we should all carry cameras with us at all times! You never know what may appear before your eyes!

After my blackberry picking experience that I talked about here, I decided to go to another "u-pick" farm for fresh summer fruit. This time, I chose to visit Red River Peach Orchard outside Gainesville, Texas, and picked a whopping 25 pounds of amazingly yummy peaches! While out in the beautiful orchard, I took this photo of riped peaches drenched in morning light. I immediately fell in love with it!

When I got home, I decided to make my very first jam ever! I made eight pints of peach jam, and found it to be a time-consuming, but fun and easy, process! Here's a photo I took of my first jars of yummy peach jam:

Not only did I make jam, but I made two cobblers, some delicious peach salsa, and I put up three huge freezer bags full of peaches into the freezer! I also ate about a million peaches! They were amazingly juicy and sweet!

I'm a real sucker for the Flatiron building. I cannot really tell you exactly what it is about the buiilding that I like. I don't particularly think the neighborhood it's in is very interesting, but the way it dominates the intersection and tricks the eye never ceases to amaze me. When I was in New York last summer, I was lucky enough to take a few photos of this building that I am proud of; let me tell you the story behind these images.
The first one, Gotham, was taken at about 8 o'clock in the morning. I thought I would get to the building in time to avoid strange sunshine and shade patches. However, you can see at the top that the Sun was already beginning to shine unevenly on the building. However, the expired quality of this amazing pack of Time-Zero film added some surreal flames to the lower portion of this picture, balancing the sunlight on the top quite nicely. This photo has turned out to be one of my personal favorites.

This photo was taken a few days before Gotham, and it took me about 20 minutes to get this properly lined up without having any other buildings in the frame! I shot another one prior to this, but the building turned out too crooked for my taste, so I shot another and got this special image. I know it sounds silly, but I was literally out of breath after taking this shot! It was a real bear to compose, but worth it. I was particularly happy with the colors; they are classically faded as good Time-Zero colors taken in bright light should be, but not washed out.

As a change of pace, this Holga photo was taken on a whim; I love to play with multiple exposures, so I shot madly, wondering how it would come out. I think it's a fairly fun photograph!

Earlier this evening, my husband went out to make a quick run to the supermarket, and he called me after only being gone for a few minutes to say, "I'm over here on the corner, and the cows got out!" The cows live just a bit down the road from us, and apparently, there were four of them, including a small calf, in the street! Luckily, they seem to have found their way back into their field, but it reminded me of this photo I took last summer of one of these cows. I think they are a very beautiful bunch of bovine, that's for sure!
